Get the Facts

It’s easy to find all sorts of information about veterinary medicines across the internet — especially on social media. Unfortunately, some of the information shared on social media is simply inaccurate. You deserve the facts on BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs.

Myth

BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs has not been properly or adequately tested.

Fact

All of our vaccines and medicines — including BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs — go through a rigorous regulatory approval process. In fact, more than 89 markets around the world have reviewed the comprehensive research data for BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets. Overall, more than 70 clinical research studies  have been conducted in dogs at the recommended dose that provide the basis for a safe and effective use of the product consistent with the label. And there are over 170 studies when you include supporting research for other products in the BRAVECTO® family.

Myth

MSD Animal Health hides the “true facts” about BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs’ safety.

Fact

The safety of BRAVECTO® in dogs has been tested in a variety of studies of which all have to be presented to the regulatory authorities for review.  Adverse events involving BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs are reported to regulatory agencies following all appropriate requirements  Any adverse event of which the company is aware must be reported as defined by the applicable laws in the EU — even if no causal relationship is suspected. A report does not mean that the product caused the adverse reaction.

Myth

Negative incidents using Serious side effects are frequently reported for BRAVECTO®.

Fact

This is simply not the case. The incidence of all adverse reactions (including diarrhea, vomiting, inappetence and drooling) reported worldwide after the use of the product in the field remains in the category ‘rare’ (more than 1 but less than 10 animals reacted in 10,000 animals treated). Lethargy, muscle tremor, ataxia and convulsions have been reported ‘very rarely’ in spontaneous reports (less than 1 reaction reported per 10,000 treatments).

Adverse reactions are monitored by the regulators in the EU based on PSURs and supplementary risk management activities when indicated. Any updates detected through this rigorous monitoring will be reflected in the label.

A report on an adverse reaction does not mean that the treatment caused the adverse reaction. The reaction may be completely unrelated to administration of BRAVECTO®; for example, it may be related to an underlying medical condition or another product administered at the same time. In today’s digital age, social media can present a misleading picture and we recommend discussing your questions with your trusted veterinary professional.

Myth

BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs is not safe for use with other routinely used medications.

Fact

The use with other, routine medications was carefully recorded for BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs during clinical field trials. No interactions between BRAVECTO® chewable tablets for dogs and several routinely used veterinary products were observed and there are no restrictions against such uses in the label prescribing recommendations. As with any medication, always tell your veterinarian what other medicines you are giving your dog before giving your dog BRAVECTO® and always consult your veterinarian before giving your dog another medication.

Myth

BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets for dogs causes cancer and liver or kidney damage.

Fact

Clinical research data and analysis of all adverse reactions to date have not indicated a causal relationship between the recommended use of BRAVECTO® Chewable tablets and cancer or liver or kidney damage.

Myth

Holistic medicine provides a more effective alternative to flea and tick medication.

Fact

Fleas and ticks are not just a nuisance, they also pose significant health risks, including allergic skin disorders and disease transmission. Please work with your veterinarian to use effective treatments for protection against these dangerous blood feeding parasites.
